Answers to the Most Common Questions from Parents
Is your child 4 years or older and should start learning German – either from the very beginning or simply to speak more confidently, expand vocabulary, and express themselves better in daily life?
Many parents wonder: How quickly will my child make progress? Does my child already need to know some German before joining? What happens if my child has no motivation or is very shy?
In this article, you’ll find answers to the most important questions about our German courses for children in Frankfurt. This way, you get a clear idea of how we support kids step by step in learning German – playful, individual, and pressure-free.
Reading tip: Your child speaks little or no German, and you wonder how they can still make friends? In our blog post Learn German for Kids in Frankfurt: How Does My Child Learn to Speak German? Parents’ Questions (Part 1) we answer exactly this and more.
From what age can my child attend a German course at your language institute in Frankfurt?
Children can start our German courses from the age of 4. If your child is younger, simply book an appointment with us. This allows us to get to know your child and advise you individually.
Can children without any German knowledge join?
Yes. We offer German courses for children both with and without prior knowledge. Our one-on-one lessons are ideal for both beginners and advanced learners, as we always start exactly at the current language level without creating pressure. This way, your child feels safe from the very beginning and makes steady progress step by step.
My child is 4 years old and goes to kindergarten – does he or she still need a German course?
Yes, it can definitely make sense – especially if your child is not yet confident enough in German to move freely and comfortably through everyday kindergarten life. Very often, limited language skills also make children feel insecure and shy. When a child does not have the words to approach other children, they often withdraw. Not because they are naturally shy, but because they feel unsure.
In kindergarten, many things happen naturally throughout the day: playing, crafting, running around. A German course for 4 year olds offers something that everyday kindergarten life often cannot provide: a supportive environment where your child can gradually become more confident. Speaking German, asking questions, interacting with others – all of this is practised step by step, without pressure and with a lot of fun.
An additional German course can help your child overcome these barriers more quickly. Your child learns: speaking German is normal, enjoyable, and something I can do successfully.
And there is another important point: the transition to school comes faster than many parents expect. Children who build solid German skills early usually start school with much more confidence – both linguistically and socially – and manage everyday school life more easily.

If my child is already attending speech therapy – does a German course still make sense?
Yes, in most cases a German course is still very useful and often a valuable addition to speech therapy.
Especially in cases of phonological disorders or language development delays, when the child’s first language is not German or the child has grown up bilingually from the beginning, targeted German language support can help accelerate progress. That is why we are happy to work together with speech therapists.
It is important to know that we do not offer speech therapy, but language support as a meaningful complement to speech therapy treatment, not as a replacement. In some cases, language support can even begin before therapy has officially been prescribed by a doctor.

How quickly will my child make progress in your German course?
Children learn at their own pace, so it’s impossible to give one general answer. In many cases, first successes become visible after just 8 to 12 hours of lessons.
How is progress in German checked or documented?
There are no formal tests or grades. This would take away the naturalness of learning and turn German into a competition: needing to be “good” instead of enjoying the process.
Instead, each lesson is tailored to your child’s needs and interests. Progress is quickly noticeable to both children and parents.
My child is shy – how will they still learn to speak German confidently?
We use a variety of playful methods that activate visual and emotional perception and make children want to speak. Most importantly, we always work with topics that genuinely interest your child. In most cases, it only takes a few hours until a child gains trust, feels less shy, and responds more spontaneously in German.
Will there be homework or exercises at home?
This depends on the child and the situation. Depending on the age, homework may involve reading, writing, drawing a picture related to certain words, or playing a simple game in German with parents or siblings. Sometimes, no homework is given at all if the school day is already very full. Extra tasks should never make German learning feel heavy or stressful.
What happens if my child feels unmotivated?
Just like adults, children have good and bad days. Our teachers are well prepared for this and use different methods to re-engage your child, ensuring the lessons remain fun and effective.
How is your course different from regular school lessons?
Our German courses are not mandatory classes. Children quickly notice that they are doing many fun activities, which makes them realize: “Wow, I’m getting better in German!” There are no tests, no grades, and no vocabulary drills in the classic sense. Instead, children enjoy a wide variety of activities where learning happens almost naturally – sometimes without them even noticing.
How big are the groups in the course?
German classes for children are offered exclusively as one-on-one lessons. If your child has a sibling or a friend at the same language level, they can join together in a small “Team2Learn” setting with one teacher.
How can I be sure the course really works?
You really don’t have to worry, because:
- We have over 20 years of experience teaching German to children and use a large variety of materials that we adapt to each child. This way, we meet your child exactly where they are linguistically.
- Parents regularly tell us how much more confident and natural their child has become in speaking German.
- Many children say themselves that they speak more and participate more often in school.
- We only offer German courses for children as one-on-one lessons. This ensures your child gets full attention, can speak without pressure, and makes much faster progress.
- In addition, we provide regular feedback to parents, so you can clearly see the development at every step.
What does a German class for children cost? Do you offer packages or flexible bookings?
We offer a package of 20 lessons (20 x 45 minutes). The cost is €54 per lesson, totaling €1,080, all learning materials are included. If 45 minutes is too long, lessons can be shortened to 30 minutes – in this case, there will be more than 20 appointments.
Do you offer a placement test?
Yes. Before enrolling, we arrange a personal meeting with you and your child. If your child already knows some German, we’ll spend some time talking in German to understand their level. If not, the meeting helps us get to know your child and design lessons that match their needs.
How can I register my child?
Registration is very simple: either directly after a personal consultation at our school or conveniently via email. Together, we will decide how the lessons should be structured and which schedule works best. We’ll then send you all the information by email and arrange the first lesson – making the start as smooth as possible for you and your child.
